The TEYL Certificate
course is designed for teachers who plan to teach young children (up to 10 years). The course aims at providing both
recent TESOL/TEFL graduates and practicing TESOL/TEFL trained English teachers with the necessary skills, confidence and ability to effectively plan
lessons for Young Learners, supplementing their existing knowledge about teaching. Course participants will gain a basic foundation from which to start
a career in teaching English to young children.
The course introduces a specific method of lesson planning used for young learners taking into consideration their characteristics, abilities, and classroom
management, and how multiple intelligences relate to teaching children. Participants will experience and examine lessons for different age groups ranging
from under 5s to 10 year-olds, as well as a range of different activities they can use in their lessons. Course participants will complete a project; planning
a one-week unit plan; writing specific lesson plans for an age group of their choice; and micro-teaching (teaching their classmates role playing as
children) key parts of the lessons they have planned, focusing specifically on how to incorporate songs, books and video in the classroom.
This course is designed as an extension to any TESOL/ TEFL certificate course. Due to the demanding nature of the course,
potential students are required to have an Intermediate-High Intermediate level of English and a TESOL/TEFL/CELTA
